The people who were involved in making the decision to crucify Christ did not do it because they wanted to save humanity, but because they perceived Jesus as a threat. Sure, the crucifixion was prophesied but that doesn't mean the individuals involved aren't accountable for their own actions. Not to mention they chose the most brutal and humiliating death to satisfy their cruelty.
