I found a really good article delving into the technical aspects of Nintendo's Wii U.

It's a bit of a long read, but I enjoyed it. What shocked me was that the Espresso CPU is technically based off of the G3/PowerPC 750 architecture, from 1997. Obviously there's more to it than that; it has 3 cores, runs at a much higher (relatively, 1.24 GHz KEEEK) frequency, and it's fabbed on a way more modern node. But if you look at it more in depth, things get weird. Remember how the Wii and GameCube were also both PowerPC? And how early Wii models were backwards compatible with the GameCube? Well, in the Wii that was done by having an actual IBM Gecko on the motherboard, in addition to the Broadway chip for normal stuff. And you knoe how the Wii was basically just a more powerful GameCube, right? Turns out the Wii U is just... a more powerful Wii. Well, no shit. The way they did it was fascinating to me though, as it's kinda like 3 Wii CPUs on one die all working together.

The CPU, by the way, was the most anemic part of the system. It struggles against the Xbox 360's Xenon (which also used a tri-core design) and I don't think the CELL is really comparable, for better or worse. Memory situation is also piss-poor: it's 2GB of DDR3. And unlike the Xbox One (that had 8GB of similarly slow DDR3) there's no ESRAM chip to act as a cache to compensate. Not to mention that effectively gimps the GPU, which was probably the only good part of the system. Can't remember exact performance in GFLOPS but it's close to the 360's.

You're good. Computers are really the only thing I know anything about, i just think they're cool. But i can't imagine using one for 12 hours a day and not knowing how it works.

You will never TRULY know how the computer works. Sure you might know a lot about CPUs and stuff, but you do know anything about, let's say- networking? It's a very complicated topic. Most people just call it "wifi" and go about their day but there is just so much to it. What about the power supply? The stuff that provides all the correct voltages to your computer parts without frying them. How about serial communication? The USB standard? Have you ever read the DP 2.1 specification sheet?

Just a little rambling because I myself got sad at the realization I will never understand the whole computer. And that's fine.

Bored as fuck right now and nothing seems to help. Couldn't stand the bad driver professor's accent (and it's the last day before Thanksgiving break) so I just said fuck it and walked out.

I won't be home for 7 hours since I have to get ketamine again. It wasn't as fun last time though.
It's a shame because today is a perfect rainy day and I could be farming right now.

Almost killed my laptop today. I set an unopened bottle of water on my desk and it somehow tipped over (shitty mold i guess), then it hit a can of EL COCA COLA that was also on my desk, which made it fall over too. Problem is that the coke can was open, and about half full. I think I spilled an ounce or two, I don't know. Several drops landed near the charging port, which thankfully was plugged in (but at full battery, so not charging).
Immediately got out the isopropyl and paper towels. Seems to be fine two hours later, and it does still charge. I'm a fucking idiot though.
