If you want something to ease you into GNU/Linux, backup your current files elsewhere (or make a partition for GNU/Linux separately on your existing drive so you don't have to move anything.) get a USB stick, flash Debian onto it and use common sense until it's installed. If you want something adjacent to Windows, fool proof and piss-easy, use XFCE. She's an ugly basdummy but you can make it look nice by downloading the "ocs-url" package and installing themes directly from Browse Latest | https://www.xfce-look.org/browse/ (https://www.xfce-look.org/browse/) trust me when I say that it's absolutely idiot-proof. You can get really pedantic with every aspect of the operating system, so just leave it as is and don't even glance at the rabbit-hole of choice, it's for your own good.
