The most important fundamental principal in the religion of Zoroastrianism.
The religion, known by many names, was the first ever monotheistic religion, and the first religion to make the distinction between good vs evil which is present in all of today's religions, which have taken inspiration from it (with the exception of Hinduism, as it is polytheistic and older).
This religion of the ancient Persians was formally established around the 6th century BC, well before Judaism or Christianity. It was the final development of the prehistoric Indo-Iranian religion which is itself a development of the Indo-European religion. The founder and prophet, Zartosht (Zoroaster in Greek) taught about the God, Ahura Mazda (Hormazd in modern Persian) and his battle for good against the evil spirit Angra Mainyu (Ahriman in modern Persian).
He taught that Good will ultimately triumph over Evil, and it is our duty as humans to aid that outcome. Everything starts as a thought, so think good thoughts, speak good words, and do good deeds.
